Moving outside of Medium, would you say that anyone on the internet who charges a fee / offers a subscription model is rent seeking?

Getty Images — so many images are available for for general use as a part of the internet commons, while they want a fee.

Financial Times / New York Times — pretty much all news / opinions are free on the internet commons, these chaps (and some others) have paywalled large parts of their websites.

Any self-published author who isn’t giving their books for free on Kindle — so many are, and so you would say they’ve created a free commons and anyone who comes in and wants to sell their own novels is now rent seeking?
