Not sure if this helps but I saw some weirdness on my stories as well (at one point I had zero views, zero reads, six people applauding and one clap) and I complained to Medium Support. They said:

We are currently experiencing a backup in our data pipeline that process certain stats and counts. This is showing itself in various places of the product, including the stats page, post page response and recommend counts, and notifications.

It took a while for the numbers to catch up.
