This has happened to me once, a lot of views from medium.com but a much lower reads ratio than what I usually get. After some sleuthing, I found out that the paywalled poem in question (shameless plug: it was this one!) was briefly on the Medium homepage (the one non signed-in folks see) in the “Featured for Members” section. So many folks who just passed by the website were clicking on it (which meant reads) but many of them were not signed in or simply not members (which meant lower views).
